This is a continuation of my last post. Please read this one only after reading my previous post.
In the even when weakness visited my dwelling,
And the shadow of helplessness followed me around.
My heart feared and legs trembled in readiness to abandon
before father’s words came to remembrance.
“In helplessness lies the lessons of true humility”
– to know how to conduct when strength abounds.
For the abundance of strength opens way for pride
which sits on the shoulder of the mighty.
Self assurance hovers around him,
till the day comes
When his horse trips and he hangs on a tree-branch
With his head below and his legs above
No one shall deliver him from his helplessness,
‘Cos pride attracts only mockers in days of scarcity
I lived continuously in complete denial of death
Praying daily that it will loiter not in my corridor
Never by mistake walked along the valley and the shadow of death
But one day neighbor came down with the flu,
the flu came back with cholera,
And cholera took him some feet below
To the place I feared to go
My heart jumped and escaped from my chest
Before the words of father came ringing
Death takes one and reminds the other
That someday on his knees he’ll give account to the maker
fear disappeared and reasoning came alive:
All I did was smile when priest preached at the funeral
for he said things father told me long ago.
Our earth will soon reach the point it started from last year
The dryness of September will come back again
Birds that sang this morning will go back to sleep at night
To everything there is a time and a season.
In times of abundance won’t you prepare for scarcity?
